April 13, 6 p.m.

Phaedra Robinson’s powerfully-titled Beyond the Landscape of Love and Death opens this Saturday at Detroit Contemporary, a Woodbridge art space she helped found in the early oughts.

Work in the show offers a green world of renewal, freshly enriched by now unseen ashes and spilled blood. This installation brings viewers into this world after grief and confusion have passed, to experience the beauty of hope and appreciation of life with a renewed conviction.

This semi-autobiographical exhibition takes the form of metaphor, using materials from Phaedra Robinson’s life; from those she has loved; some who have passed and some who remain. Anthropomorphic and plant-like forms symbolically and formally elicit our senses.

Wow. Check it out Saturday April 13, beginning at 6 p.m. Detroit Contemporary is at 5141 Rosa Parks, Detroit.
