The Detroit premiere of “High Tech Soul,” a documentary chronicling the
origins of Detroit techno, will make its local premiere at 10 p.m.
Saturday, April 22, at the Masonic Temple. Director Gary Bredow looks
forward to its hometown debut as a “thank you to the artists, the city,
and the participants.”

Luminaries such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Carl
Craig and Stacey Pullen are featured in the film, speaking to the
beginnings and global rise of the locally-spawned genre.

Bredow hopes to induct viewers unfamiliar with Detroit’s techno scene
to a “stronger understanding of the music and its culture and its tie
to the city of Detroit.” The film screening will be followed by a party
with performances by many of the same musicians featured in the film.

The event is being produced by Paxahau, the same company recently
selected by the city of Detroit to put on Movement, Detroit’s
Electronic Music Festival. Bredow deems this as no coincidence.
“They’re very strong. I knew they had the ability to pull something
like this off.”

Tickets for the event cost $25 and are available in advance from www.paxahau.com.
