Artist-designer Gary Panter talks about his weird work at MOCAD

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Comic artist and punk art prankster Gary Panter has influenced at least a couple of generations of artists. He has created iconic designs for albums by the Screamers (Detroit electro-punk duo Adult. covered one their songs at the fantastic Panter opening party earlier this month), The Residents, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers; been involved with seminal LA punk zine and label Slash; created the Jimbo comic, which frequently appeared in Art Spiegelman’s RAW magazine; and, most popularly, designed groundbreaking sets for Pee-wee Herman’s children’s show Pee-wee’s Playhouse in the 1980s.

Panter talks about his show and his work Friday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at MOCAD, 4454 Woodward Ave., in Midtown. For more info on Panter go here.
