Three of the four recently crowned 2023 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters are from Detroit and this year’s festival features hometown jazz royalty saxophonist Kenny Garrett, violinist Regina Carter, and drummers Louis Hayes and Karriem Riggins as headliners.

“I am excited to witness the completion of Gmeiner Park,” said Crystal Perkins, Director of the General Services Department, City of Detroit. “My children, who are now 21, 16, & 14, used to play in this area when they attended after school programs and summer camp at Tindal with Healthy Kidz. During that time, they only had an open field to play games and run around. Now this community and the children who visit the center can enjoy the playscape and other amenities.”
This year’s festival welcomed the return of the Detroit Institute of Arts, and attendees could build their own kites at a kite creation tent and fix broken kites at a kite repair tent.

For creator and producer, Carlos King, filming in Detroit is a hometown triumph: "I knew the world would be interested in seeing what the new Detroit looks like and these three couples represent that effort."
