Bob’s Classic Kicks in Midtown caters to sneaker-obsessed
Jason Johnson knows his clientele. “They’re sneakerheads. And that’s
why I opened my store here — I’m right in the middle of that
demographic.” Johnson owns Bob’s Classic Kicks, a specialty sneaker
shop located at 4717 Woodward at Forest, next to the Detroit Artists
Market.
“I get a lot of Wayne State customers, and a lot of people stop when
they drive by and see a Reebok Pump in the window,” says Johnson. The
shop carries Converse, Reebok, Penguin, Medium and Fila, along with
British specialty line Gola. Johnson has plans to add Nike, Adidas and
Vans to the mix soon.
Bob’s operates much like specialty shoe stores in New York and Toronto
in that it carries approximately 10 different styles at a time, and
styles are updated each month. The comfortable couches, original
paintings, framed photographs, custom paint job and high ceilings all
contribute to the atmosphere of shoe-as-art.
Shoes range in price from approximately $50-$150. The shop is open from
noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
