WSU helps Macomb save library, hopes to expand the school's library science scope

Wayne State University will lease and manage the Macomb County Library, which has repeatedly been threatened with closure. WSU hopes to expand its library science program and its scope in Michigan with the move.

Wayne State hopes the facility will enhance its library sciences program, which offers degrees at the adjacent Macomb Community College University Center. An expansion of the library building is projected in the future to accommodate the degree program.

Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president for educational outreach at Wayne State, said the "innovative partnership" could represent another step toward developing a 4-year university in the county.

"Since the fall of 2006 we've launched new programs and expanded our presence in Macomb County," Ezzeddine said. "This … will provide our students with a 21st century electronic reference library."
