Wayne State's $142 million overhaul to 'perk up' academics

Wayne State University's aggressive building plans will dramatically change the landscape of its urban campus and perk up key academic programs that are vital to the state's economy.

On tap are renovations and additions to the College of Engineering, School of Business Administration, and medical and law schools.

Wayne First, the university's year-old capital campaign, will bankroll the estimated $142 million in construction. It also will fund faculty endowments and scholarships that school officials hope will lure some of the nation's top minds to the university.
