They're back: Tiger fever is adding economic roar to Detroit

Go Tigers. Two reports say a bullish baseball team is bullish for the economy as well.

Thanks to an unexpected World Series trip two years ago followed by another strong season in 2007, some deft off-season player acquisitions and the popular, if irascible, Jim Leyland again managing the troops, fan interest is at an all-time high and the team is a leading candidate to win another AL pennant.

And that's good for business, says the Detroit Regional Chamber and East Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group — good to the tune of about $117 million to $277 million.
