Double-header for Tiger Stadium: New plan emerges for partial savior, plus a ballpark doc clip

Game One:

Maybe it's fitting that it's called TIGER Stadium because, well, it seems to have nine lives (kinda)... Either that, or people really care about the structure on Michigan and Trumbull. A new plan has emerged to preserve a corner of the old ballpark, as well as the diamond. Money, of course, will be the yay or nay on how much longer the city will allow the legendary structure to stand.

Excerpt:

The result was a new agreement in which preservationists must create escrow accounts of $300,000 and $69,000 by Aug. 8, when the issue will be brought back to council.

The Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy, a preservation group, also must get complete funding for a museum in place by March 1, 2009, under the agreement. The amount needed is about $15.6 million.

The plan includes preserving the baseball diamond and 3,000 seats, and building a museum.

Game Two:

The Detroit Athletic Co.'s blog posts a clip about Tiger Stadium from the documentary "The Story of America's classic Ballparks." The post also asks why the some in Detroit's sports community have remained quiet during the whole thing.

Excerpt:

What is so disheartening to me, and has been for many years, is how silent many in Detroit’s sports and business communities have been in regard to the stadium.
