If you own a Segway -- those two-wheeled, upright, transportation
vehicles -- you might be considered lazy. It's like an escalator,
except there is no upper floor. But putting those Segways to good use
by using them to promote Detroit, that's not lazy, that's just a good
idea.

While breezing along downtown streets, tour leaders such as Jeanette
Pierce, co-founder of Inside Detroit, discuss the city's economic
climate and the pros of living and doing business in Detroit, and
strive to open eyes to the possibilities in the Motor City. She also
likes to point out new businesses that opened their doors downtown in
the midst of the recession but are doing well.
"Small businesses are the future of the city," said Pierce, who
launched the tours in July and noted they're booked through October.
"There's doom and gloom all over, but there are so many success

Pierce can point out several benefits to starting a business in
Detroit: the low cost of renting or leasing; the close-knit business
community; and the ease of commuting while living downtown.
