The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has greatly improved Detroit's east Riverfront in the six years since its inception.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy came together in 2003 to provide
public access to Detroit’s riverfront through construction of the
RiverWalk and programming on it.
Since then, it’s pieced together land easement agreements with private
land owners and a 90-year lease for public land belonging to the city
of Detroit to complete most of the 3.5-mile east RiverWalk between
Gabriel Richard Park near the Belle Isle bridge and Cobo Center and two
of four planned pavilions on the walk.
