Not too bad. Tied for 23rd is nearly the halfway mark of the 40 cities in the
study. Detroit beat out cities like New York and Boston (obviously
though with their insane rents) but also urban cities like Philly and Oakland.

Annual Change in Rent: 0.8%
New Construction: 3%
On average, mortgage payments are cheaper than monthly rents in
Detroit, and there's little increase in new construction for 2008.
However, if you do rent, don't expect to pay much more next year. The
annual change in rent from 2007 was just .8%.
