A reporter from the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently spent a weekend in
Detroit casino-hopping without any gambling. She focused on dining and
nightlife, and found much to enjoy during her stay.
Excerpts:
The new MGM Grand Detroit is grand, indeed. Service was
impeccable, with staff offering to give us tours of the
hotel and the spa, put air in our car's low tire and
check on dinner reservations. (And no, they didn't know
I was reviewing the property for this newspaper.)
The [MotorCity] resort's top-rated restaurant, Iridescence,
meanwhile, will get a new home atop the hotel's 16th
floor, also next month. It will get a new menu, though the
old one worked just fine for me: My 16-ounce New York strip
steak was perfect and big enough to share.
After I checked out of MotorCity, I made a quick trip to
Greektown to see how construction was progressing. This is
my favorite of the city's three gambling halls, the
only one in an actual neighborhood (Greektown, of course),
with bare brick walls and small alcoves and hallways to
explore.
