A study released states that the Hispanic community has contributed about $14.5 billion to the local economy.

The study, conducted by Wayne State University’s Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies and the WSU Center for Urban Studies,
found that residents of Hispanic descent contribute about $14.5 billion
to the local economy. The community in seven counties of Southeast
Michigan grew by 27.9 percent since 2000. Growth in Wayne County was
about 39 percent.
Hispanic economic impact exceeds population
percentage, the study found. Hispanics comprised 3.5 percent of the
region’s total population in 2006 but accounted for 6.5 percent of the
total employment, 6.4 percent of total earnings and 6.2 percent of the
total economic output in Southeast Michigan.
