In anticipation of the Hard Lessons playing Denver, the
Denver Post sounds off about Detroit's tradition of rocking live shows hard.

For some reason, bands hailing from the
Motor City know how to inject rock 'n' roll with a spike-surge of
adrenalin. Think about some of the great live bands in recent years -
the Paybacks, White Stripes, Electric 6 (pre-"Senor Smoke"), the
Dirtbombs and the Detroit Cobras. They have an uncanny ability to
electrify a room instantly with their swaggering music. The Hard
Lessons are happy to continue in the city's tradition, which was
started by Motown artists and furthered by the Stooges and the MC5.
"Bands from Detroit have to work hard in the
old-fashioned sense of getting out there and touring," [singer-guitarist Augie] Visocchi said.
"Once the White Stripes left town, it was back to square one for the
bands, and we really had to get out there and work our (expletive) off
because nobody's paying attention to Detroit like they are New York or
L.A."
