The grocery store argument for Detroit is a big one. In some cases it may be true, especially if you're looking for a Kroger or Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, which don't exist in the city. But, look closer and you'll probably find all the grocers you need. Southwest Detroit, for instance, has a dozen markets -- and really, really nice ones, too.

improve the quality of life for people living in the area.
"The
fact that we have all these stores so close together, offering high
quality products, has greatly impacted the quality of life for everyone
in the area," he said. "Not just the ethnic population, but the seniors
and low-income population as well, who might have trouble driving to
get groceries."
