The Green Gym will include stationary bicycles that will generate electricity to be redirected into Cass Community Social Services' power grid. Over a year's time, with four daily classes and 10 people in each class, those bikes -- Green Revolution Technology-enabled -- and their riders will generate enough power to light 36 homes for a month or three homes for a year, the nonprofit said in a release.

Other equipment at the gym, which is located inside Cass' warehouse on Woodrow Wilson in Detroit, includes two weight machines, boxing bags and a treadmill.
