City Council gives a green light to Grand Prix's return to Belle Isle

Detroit City Council has approved the return of Grand Prix racing to Belle Isle.

The council approved a five-year contract with the nonprofit Downtown Detroit Partnership, chaired by racing legend Roger Penske, to organize the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press reported.

The Labor Day weekend races will mark Detroit's return to the Grand Prix circuit for the first time since 2001.
