State Fairground's north end marketed for redevelopment

No more softball means unused land. So, the dusty fields of Softball City, the northern section of the Michigan State Fairgrounds, are being marketed for a mixed-use development. Whatever development goes down, however, will not infringe of the Fair.

The 70 acres previously used for Softball City would be redeveloped into a mixed-use site if a developer interested in leasing the property can be found, according to a request for proposals issued last week. A developer can also lease the 90 acres of land where the fair is held as long as the fair operations aren't interfered with, according to the document. The Southfield office of Staubach Co. is marketing the site.
