Cass Tech alum has big screen dreams for Detroit

Joe Doughrity is an alumnus of Cass Tech and his short-length film, "Akira's Hip-Hop Shop," is being expanded to a full-length feature. He talked with the Freep about his dreams to showcase his hometown on the big screen.

Q: Is there a spot in Detroit you think would be a good setting for a film?

A: The whole urban area. I love the giant tire over I-94. I don't know what I would do with it. I think there are many untapped resources. Michigan, with its diverse geography, there's a lot of territory to be explored -- Campus Martius, downtown, Wayne State.
