Crain's readers praise Detroit's 'neighborhoody feel,' downtown excitement

From the column:

One reader writes: "To me, the neighborhoods are the real Detroit, far
beyond the new restaurants or fancy new lofts. We need those, and I am
glad they are here. But my best Detroit moments are things like our
annual Christmas caroling in Green Acres or our June Day festival in
North Rosedale Park or watching the fireworks from the roof of my
building near Wayne. It's things like that that explain why so many of us with better options stay here."

Another: "The entire downtown area is aglow with activity and excitement; it really is stunning. We walked down Woodward, went over to the Greektown Casino, went through the Millender (Center), the RenCen, had dinner at Jacoby's and cocktails afterward at Tom's (Oyster Bar). The entire area is buzzing; it was really a lot of fun. Anybody who doesn't get down there this week doesn't know what they are missing. It reminds me of Chicago or New York."
