Entrepreneur releases Detroit-centric T-shirt line

He's now competing with himself. Robert Stanzler, who founded the "Made In Detroit" line in 1991 and then sold it to Kid Rock in 2007, has something else out on the market. His new T-shirt line, called Detroit Manufacturing, displays a Detroit-centric philosophy with upbeat messages. The shirts have hit area retailers running.

"His shirts fly out of our store. I love the characters and quality of fabric," said Felicia Williams, owner of Flo Boutique in Midtown. "When Robert said he had a new T-shirt line, I wanted to be one of the first to carry it. People come here for something new, something different and urban."

Negotiating with mom-and-pop silk screen producers and individual retailers gives Stanzler a renewed vigor.

"I'm more energized than I was in the first days of my old company. It is all about grass roots and incubating Detroit businesses. I'm producing a product with momentum and demand."
