National retail guru Noah Eichelbaum spoke to an Ideas Before Dawn group at the Detroit Athletic Club about angles worth pursuing in terms of retail in downtown Detroit.

While Eichelbaum said he’s optimistic about Detroit’s future, he said
the city must develop retail based on the realities of the current
economy rather than its vision for the area. For instance, he said it
would be difficult for Detroit to attract a major department store
downtown right now, but the city can develop and encourage smaller
retailers to do business and grow Detroit’s retail reputation.
