Sheffield sent a letter last week to NBC officials calling the "Dateline" episode "a gross and unbalanced misrepresentation of a city we love so dearly and work so tirelessly to improve."
NBC News issued a statement Monday thanking Sheffield and his daughter, Mary, for coming to New York. "The Sheffields had several comments and suggestions that we are taking into consideration and we will keep the lines of communication open with them going forward," the statement said.
The network also said it believed the "Dateline" episode, which took 10 months to report, was a fair representation of the situation in Detroit. It described the response it received as "overwhelmingly positive."
