Edsel Ford II to head long-term growth study

The Detroit Regional Chamber has drafted Edsel Ford II to lead an advisory committee on a two-year study aimed at charting long-term economic growth for Southeast Michigan.

Chamber President Richard Blouse said the 10-county survey will assess how to address educational needs that lead to jobs, and what needs to be done to reach the region’s vision of economic and cultural prosperity.

He said the agenda for the project is to include:

  • Identifying regional priorities that offer great economic and social benefit to the greatest number of people.
  • Providing measurable objectives for sustained economic growth and prosperity.
  • Creating strategies to meet those objectives.
  • Designing specific indicators for monitoring and evaluating progress.

The advisory committee is to bring together leaders from business, government, labor, civic, religious and nonprofit groups. Also planned is a series of regional interviews, surveys and community meetings, Blouse said.
