Economic-development experts seem to agree: racial fighting blocks development. Diversity, on the other hand, can help spur it, says Keith Schneider, deputy director of the Michigan Land Use Institute.
Big changes are on the horizon in Detroit’s New Center area. The canopy removal was only the first stage of $4 million public and private improvement project for the area. The Woodward Gateway Project promises historic street lamps, new sidewalks with clay brick accents, trees surrounded by cast-iron grates, bike racks, benches and trash receptacles.
The All-Star Game confirmed it: Downtown Detroit's long decline is over.
