City to host environmental forum

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The City of Detroit Department of Environmental Affairs will host an
environmental forum geared to Detroit residents from 5-7 p.m. on March
31 at the Northwest Activity Center at 18100 Meyers Rd.  The forum
will include a panel of representatives from the city, Wayne County,
State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, and the EPA.

Panelists will touch on such issues as air quality, asthma, asbestos,
watershed, household hazardous waste, solid waste, lead, junkyards and
brownfield sites. The forum will also identify resources that are
currently available from the city, county and state governments.

“Our objective is to create sustainable communities by educating
residents regarding environmental issues and identifying potential
resources to address any concerns,” says Environmental Affairs
spokesperson LaReina Reid. The department received funding from the EPA
to conduct this forum, as well as a second yet to be scheduled forum
that will specifically address concerns identified as primary issues by
the residents at the first forum.

Contact Reid at reidla@envafrs.ci.detroit.mi.us for more information.
