Inside/out: DIA takes 40 reproductions to the streets to celebrate 125 years of fine art
Hey, what is Georges Seurat’s View of Le Crotoy from Upstream doing on the RiverWalk? Ditto for Jean Marc Nattier’s The Marquise de Vintimille as Aurora on the wall outside Borders bookstore in Grosse Pointe’s Village neighborhood?
Those are two of 40 reproductions strewn about the metro area by the Detroit Art Institute as part of its 125th anniversary celebration. The originals are part of the DIA’s collection. Go check them out at the museum, 5200 Woodward Avenue, in Midtown’s Cultural Center.

“We hope people will be surprised and pleased when they see them,” museum director Graham W.J. Beal said in a statement.
The reproductions each have an information plaque, much like the ones seen inside the museum.
