New $10K grant available for women and BIPOC business owners in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park

“To have a large-scale sculpture in Detroit's Civic Center, joining the likes of Noguchi, Graham, Fredericks, Barr and De Giusti — and to have it located in front of the place that I've gone to since I was just a kid at the Auto Show — it's a real honor,” says Detroit artist Scott Hocking.
“It's a win-win,” says Amy Good, CEO of Alternatives for Girls. “That's what we wanted: a win-win, a neighborhood that would be a good fit, where our project would contribute to the community and the community would help our participants be successful.”
“We’re all about inclusivity,” says Marc Pasco, director of communications for the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. “This is a project that we asked the public to help design so we want everyone to come out.”
“This will be a space to talk about what people’s needs are within the corridor. And as a business owner, it can be very valuable. There will be networking opportunities; you can see what needs and resources are out there,” says Chelsea Salame, economic development manager for the GRDC. “We’re all about providing access to resources and plain old grassroots organizing.”
“The FAM Program doubles down on our efforts across all of our funds to improve the odds for founders who have historic and systemic barriers to finding the capital they need to advance,” says Patti Glaza, managing director of Invest Detroit Ventures.
“The growth of new small craft and niche snack food companies in Michigan is exciting,” says Duncan Smith, President and COO of All Star Services, Inc. “All Star Services is a growing small business and we want to help bring more focus to the growing segment of snack food companies in Michigan.”
“The Southwest Greenway will make it easy and fun for people living and working on the west side of Detroit to get to the Detroit Riverfront,” says Matt Cullen, chairman, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.
“Our transition into TechTown will allow Hatch Detroit to expand capacity, increase reach and improve communication with business owners and the public,” says Vittoria Katanski, executive director of Hatch. “Hatch now has the opportunity to grow and touch the lives of future business owners for many years to come. The network of alumni winners can now mentor the next generation.”
