Inching forward: Southwest’s Ladybug Gallery hosts exhibit on creative reuse of Detroit land
Jan. 14, 6-9 p.m.
Ever thought of buying an inch of land in Detroit? Well, yes, we have actually thought of it, and we know several people who have already purchased several inches of good, solid earth here. According to Detroit Lives! founder Philip Lauri, hundreds of people from around the country already have done the same. Wait, this just in: we know people from all over the world who are doing the same, which makes an upcoming exhibition at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) even more exciting.
Lauri has organized a show that includes information about the sale of hundreds of inches of Detroit land along with works by Detroit artists, musicians, a farmer, a New York Times writer and others. “Detroit Lives!” opens this Friday, Jan. 14 at the CAID’s Ladybug Gallery in Southwest Detroit’s Hubbard Farms neighborhood. Organizers encourage guests to bring something/anything on which to print (paper, cardboard, clothing) to participate. OK, we will. The Ladybug is at 1250 Hubbard St. For more info, go here.
