The weather outside is frightful.
AccuWeather reports there is an extreme cold watch in effect from late the early hours of Friday morning (Jan. 23) through Saturday morning.
Wind chill temperatures could be as low as -25 across all of southeast Michigan.

Temps that low can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
An arctic air mass was expected to settle over the region Thursday night bringing actual temperatures to below zero and windchills likely to fall to 15 to 20 degrees below zero late Thursday night and Friday night. There is also a chance that feels-like temperatures could fall to 25 degrees below zero, according to AccuWeather.
They offer this advice:
• dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside;
• keep pets indoors as much as possible; and
• use caution while traveling outside.

The City of Detroit warns frostbite signs are numbness, white or grayish-yellow skin, and firm or waxy skin.
If any portion of your body becomes numb due to the cold, go indoors immediately, remove any wet clothing, and slowly warm the affected area. Soak in warm water. Use body heat to warm. Warm under dry layers of blankets and clothing. Do not massage or use a heating pad, the City recommends.
Hypothermia is potentially even more dangerous. This health hazard is defined as the lowering of the body temperature below 95 degrees, the City explains. Warning signs of hypothermia include uncontrollable shivering, exhaustion, confusion, fumbling hands, memory loss, slurred speech, or drowsiness. If you experience any of these signs to a warm room. Warm the center of the body first—chest, neck, head and groin. Keep dry and wrapped up in warm blankets, including the head and neck. If the body temperature drops below 95 degrees, get medical attention immediately.
It could be worse. So far the cold is not setting records, though that might not help anyone feel any warmer. The record low temp was 6 degrees on Friday, Jan. 23 set in 1883. The record for Saturday, Jan. 24 was set in 1963 when there was a high of 4 degrees and a low of -13, according to the National Weather Service.
