Le Havre is a quirky comedy set in the coastal French city where fate throws a young African refugee into the path of Marcel Marx, a well-spoken bohemian who works as a shoeshiner and stands up to officials pursuing the boy for deportation. The film is a political fairy tale that exists somewhere between the reality of contemporary France and the classic cinema of Jean-Pierre Melville and Marcel Carné. It features local rock singer "Little Bob" -- pictured - who Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki (Leningrad Cowboys Go America) cast in the film after declaring Le Havre the "Memphis, Tennessee of France." Elvis might live, after all. In French and Finnish with English subtitles.
