Majestic Theatre

Jan. 29, 10 p.m.-4 a.m.

One of dance crazy Detroit’s most enduring franchises appears to have found a home inside the Majestic Theatre, which hosted a ripping version of the long running Original Motor City Funk night this past New Year’s Eve. Before that it was held at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit, Bohemian House, Hoban Foods Inc. and various gallery and warehouse spaces around the city. Two year’s ago, Paper Magazine called it the best nightlife party in the U.S., French Mag Under the Influence raved about it in its recent Detroit issue, and experienced dancefloor bumpers and grinders know how good it is by just, well, experiencing the rare grooves month after month after month.

This Friday, experience super heavy Funk 45s spun by Frank Raines and Aaron Anderson. Your host: Danny Brown. Live performances by Third Coast Kings and Sweet Science. At the Majestic Theatre, 4140 Woodward Avenue, Detroit. Party rolls from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
