Detroit’s IT party crew welcomes back Derek Plaslaiko to Leland Ballroom
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
Jan. 11, 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Long before the City Club, which opened in the early 1980s in downtown’s Leland Hotel, was throwing dance parties, legendary events were being held in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom all the way back to 1927 — when Detroiters really knew how to party.
The Grand Ballroom has a decaying Versailles-meets-Art Deco vibe just shouts pure decadence. This totally legal venue has a legit bar that stays open during bar hours, but is one of the rare places in Detroit with a grandfather clause that allows it to stay open long after “last call.” So yes, aging ravers, you can rave on until at least 7 a.m. at Total Eclipse of The Brain. Love that title.
This is an Interdimensional Transmissions event featuring special guest former Detroiter Derek Plaislaiko, now living and working in Berlin.
BMG (aka Brendan Gillen), who collaborated with Plaslaiko on “Is Your Mother Home” for IT, and Erika, whose solo LP is due this spring, complete the bill.
Friday, Jan. 11, at the Grand Ballroom inside the Leland, 400 Bagley Ave. $10 all night. 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.
