WSU grad leverages Adams Fellowship to launch Joshi Biochemical
Recent Wayne State University graduate Nilesh Joshi is leveraging the Adams Entrepreneur Fellowship Program to launch his own green-tech startup, Joshi Biochemical.
The TechTown-based firm is creating bio-degradable chemicals. It got its start out of the Blackstone LaunchPad, obtaining its first funding through the program’s Warrior Fund. Not long after graduating with a Master’s in Science for Chemistry, Joshi became an Adams Fellow.
The Automation Alley-based program provides entrepreneurial mentorship and a $60,000 stipend so aspiring entrepreneurs can join the local start-up scene. Joshi is using it to launch his own company.
“We plan to grow into a full-fledged company,” Joshi says. “A year from now we hope to have a pilot plant in Detroit. We want to start production of these chemicals.”
Joshi Biochemical is working to develop green chemicals for the consumer products industry. The chemicals take fewer steps to make and are not toxic. Local angel investor extraordinaire Terry Cross is mentoring Joshi.
“I’m good with the science side of things.” Joshi says. “I am still learning the business side of things. Terry has been very good at helping me with that.”
