The United States Department of State will open a Gateway City Passport Agency this fall. The facility will be located at 211 W. Fort St., occupying the building’s entire second floor.

The office will be able to expedite passport applications and will employ 40 to 60 people. In an earlier report about the office, a department spokesperson said that Detroit was chosen for the Gateway City Passport Office, the agency’s first, because of its proximity to Canada’s border, its size and demand.

With this 10-year lease in place, 211 W. Fort is just under 90% occupied. Fred Klugman of Klugman Commercial is the property’s broker. Read more about previous lease activity in the building here.
