After outgrowing Detropt’s hospitality industry, home-grown talent is returning to Detroit to work in the new casinos.

In the hospitality field, the Detroit area has several high-level
restaurant and hotel positions, but talented people from this area
often have to seek jobs outside the state to move up, said Ben
Schwartz, president of Farmington Hills-based Harper Associates, a hospitality industry recruiting firm.

“From
our many years of experience, we have found it is very difficult to
recruit upper-level hospitality management personnel to the Detroit
area, unless they have family in the area or a personal connection to
Michigan,” he said.

“The expansion of the hotel/casino industry
in Detroit should draw more hospitality professionals to the area than
ever before, especially those who have already lived here and
appreciate how much Michigan has to offer.”
