The team from the University of Detroit Mercy took the top spot in the Association for Corporate Growth
Detroit Cup - the MBA Business Case Competition.
The three-person team from U-D Mercy beat out the other teams from its own school in the first round. It then beat out the best teams from the other participating schools, which included Michigan State University, Oakland University, University of Michigan, Walsh College and Wayne State University.
"It says a lot about the faculty and the support they receive from the program," says Jeff Cyr, a spokesman for the event. "It shows that the University of Detroit Mercy's program is on the same level as these other top-tier programs."
The rounds focused on how the teams dealt with case studies, including acting as investment bankers trying to convince a private-equity firm to invest in start-ups. U-D Mercy's team won $10,000 in scholarship money for coming up with the best strategies on how to deal with these case studies.
This is the second year for the intercollegiate competition, which was sponsored by the Detroit Chapter of the
Association for Corporate Growth. The competition also serves as a place for students and faculty to network and build future business relationships.
