EXT Life Sciences developing anti-oxidant into potential wonder drug

What's special about EXT Life Sciences isn’t the size of the company or how many people it employs. It's the potential of its product.

The TechTown-based firm is working on a drug that could turn out to be a powerful yet versatile anti-oxidant. The drug, a spin-off of Wayne State University research, works sort of like a smart missile that neutralizes production of harmful oxidants without affecting other parts of the cell.

"We can get right at the source with this technology," says John I. Tesija, secretary treasurer of EXT Life Sciences.

Right now the two-person firm is at the tail end of conducting preliminary research and development on it. It's also in the process of raising venture capital to continue the testing and take it to market. The firm is still several months away from commercialization.

The drug could have a variety of uses, ranging from cosmetic applications to pharmaceutical ingredients.

"We're not a one-trick pony," Tesija says.
