WSU prof lands $2.6M to study mental health

Matcheri Keshavan, professor and associate chairman of Wayne State University's Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Neurosciences in the school of medicine, is the lead researcher on a $2.6 million study into schizphrenia and psychotic bipolar disorder.

Excerpt:

Little is known about the causes of the diseases in some people. Keshavan suggests that genetic and environmental factors play a significant role in determining certain risk factors for the disorders.

Keshavan said the grant "will potentially help us understand the causes of schizophrenia or bipolar disorders and will also help guide development of new treatment strategies targeting symptoms in these disorders.”
