I am Young Detroit puts names to faces for Motown's difference makers

Margarita Barry didn't like the way the media was portraying her hometown, so she did something about it. That something is I am Young Detroit, a blog that profiles the city's young up-and-comers.

"It profiles Detroiters who are making an impact," says Barry, founder and publisher of I am Young Detroit. "People who are finding creative and innovative ways to make a difference."

I am Young Detroit is celebrating its first year and has grown its team to 10 people who work virtually from home but regularly meet in Midtown. Barry and her team have spent the first year establishing the blog and plan to focus on making it profitable beyond traditional advertising in 2011. They're looking at gathering data and collaborating on events to bring in more revenue.

"I'd like to be a self-sustaining entity beyond just a publication," Barry says. "I would like to dig deeper and help people find the resources to do what they want to do."
