The DTE Energy Foundation is partnering with
City Connect Detroit to launch a youth employment initiative this summer that will provide hundreds of jobs to teens in Detroit.
The 2nd annual Youth Job Summit will create about 300 job opportunities for kids between the ages of 14- and 18-years-old. Most of the those jobs will be made available to teens in the city, but youth from across Metro Detroit will also be involved.
"We're going to significantly increase the numbers of job opportunities for young folks this year," says Alejandro Bodipo-Memba, a spokesman for
DTE Energy. "It should be three times as many as last year."
The jobs will be in a variety of areas, such as outside manual labor to indoor office work. Bodipo-Memba says DTE Energy Foundation expects these entry-level positions will help teach these young people to work together as a team, begin a career path and do a good job at their work. "Summer employment is the one of the best ways to prepare kids for the future," Bodipo-Memba says.
