Cornerstone Schools plans to launch a new high school in the city's northeast side this fall that will focus on business, leadership and technology curriculum on top of the normal secondary school education.
The Leadership and Business High School, set to open in August, has enlisted the help of a number of local business and community leaders to take part in the educational process. Students will be paired with these local leaders who will provide real-world experience through an internship at their respective business.
"It's not just about work," says Ernestine Sanders, president & CEO of
Cornerstone Schools. "It's about learning how to do business inside and out."
The students at the parochial school will also mentor a younger student attending another Cornerstone School. The school system currently educates 1,400 students annually in grades K-8. About 95 percent of its students graduate from high school and 91 percent go onto college.
Cornerstone Schools' Leadership and Business High School will be housed in Cornerstone Schools campus near Mt. Olivet Cemetery on East Nevada Street. It will begin accepting applications this year for its first freshmen class of 50 students. The school plans to keep its total annual enrollment at about 200 students.
