Model D Speaker Series: Making Government Work in Detroit

With all the momentum around entrepreneurship and innovation in Detroit, it's important to remember that first and foremost, we are citizens. We can dream up creative new ways to fund businesses or invest in our neighborhoods, but if we're not voting for leaders and measures to move Detroit forward, the gap between what's working and what's not working will only grow wider.

So with the Nov. 6 election right around the corner, let's gather to talk about this: How do we make government more effective for all? This begins with you, the voter -- so we'll start with a look at the ballot to learn about what all these initiatives mean to you. Then we'll turn to a discussion moderated by Stephen Henderson of the Detroit Free Press, including Vince Keenan of Publius, Sheila Cockrel of Citizen Detroit, Bradford Frost of Declare Detroit, Sarida Scott Montgomery of CDAD and Marja Winters of the City of Detroit about opportunities to solve problems and improve municipal function.

Join us on Monday, Oct. 29, 6 p.m. at the University of Michigan Detroit Center located at 3663 Woodward Ave., at the corner of Mack and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Midtown Detroit. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. Limited seating available; registration will close when we reach capacity.
