Vintage clothing shop opens in N. Corktown

Rachel Leggs has opened a vintage clothing shop, Rachel’s Place, in a 100-year-old N. Corktown brownstone. The four-story space packs in a range of clothing from casual to career wear, evening wear to rockabilly. “I have a very eclectic style,” says Leggs. “Everything is made of the best materials. I’m a very big fabric freak. I have to touch everything.”

Rachel’s specializes in clothing from Detroit department stores like Hudson’s, Winkleman’s, Jacobson’s and Himelhoch’s. The majority of the store’s stock was made in the U.S.A., with other clothing produced in Italy and Spain. Shoes, purses, old advertisements, furniture and home goods round out the collection.

Rachel’s Place is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. It
is located at 2124 Pine St., near Rosa Parks and I-75. Leggs is available for personal consultations by appointment. Call
313-964-9008.
