Visual vibrations: Wrapping up Movement in pictures
Nearly 100,000 people came to Hart Plaza to party the Memorial Day weekend away and Model D photographer Marvin Shaouni was there with his camera, documenting the dancing, the DJs — and the Dirtbombs. How many days left until Movement 2012?
As we slide into summer we look back at the massive Detroit party that
helps get us there, the electronic music festival known as Movement,
produced and promoted by our friends at Paxahau. Five stages offered up
amplified pro sound turned up to 11 from Saturday afternoon until the
clock struck midnight early Tuesday. International stars like Ricardo
Villalobos and Flying Lotus (check out his slamming soundtrack attached
to this essay) rubbed shoulders with outstanding local talent like Aux
88, Carl Craig (performing as 69) and Michael Geiger.
Photographer
Marvin Shaouni went looking for abstractions, nuances and angles in this piece that recaps one of the world’s great dance music
events in vivid detail. Sit back and enjoy, even if you didn’t make
it downtown. This will
take you closer to the action, we guarantee it.
