Kathleen Owsley takes over the reins as director of the One D collaboration on January 2. She aims to raise the project's profile and increase community outreach.

One D, which was formed last year, is a collaborative effort of six
regional civic organizations: The Cultural Alliance of Southeastern
Michigan; The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau; the
Detroit Regional Chamber; Detroit Renaissance; New Detroit; and United
Way for Southeastern Michigan. The organizations set up One D to
facilitate cooperation around economic prosperity; educational
preparedness; quality of life issues; race relations; and regional
transit.
Owsley said One D will continue to be a collaborative project and
will not become a separate organization in its own right. She said One
D is a "mechanism" intended to help its member organizations cooperate
and in no way seeks to compete with the institutions already in place.
In fact, competition between organizations is directly contrary to One
D’s mission.
"I tell people I work for a project, instead of a company," Owsley said.
