Detroit innovation can be applied to national problems

At Friday's D Brand Summit, keynote speaker John Kao, author of Innovation Nation, talked about how innovations used to solve Detroit's problems could be valuable lessons for the rest of the country.

Excerpt:

"Detroit could be an icon for the things we’re looking for across the country," said Kao, a San Francisco-based consultant, writer and musician. "The things that can get figured out here in Detroit can show how things will get figured out everywhere else."

But just as the problems facing Southeast Michigan are immense, so are the problems confronting the United States, he said. He pointed to large amounts of spending on education with results lagging other countries.
