Construction on the Dequindre Cut, a sunken trail that connects the East Riverfront to Eastern Market, will get underway next month and wrap up May 31, 2008. ABC Paving of Trenton has been contracted by the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation for the job.

Construction on the Dequindre Cut, a sunken trail that connects the
East Riverfront to Eastern Market, will get underway next month and wrap
up May 31, 2008. ABC Paving of Trenton has been contracted by the
Detroit Economic Growth Corporation for the job.

The contract is worth about $2.8 million, to be paid for with grants
from the State of Michigan and the Community Foundation for Southeast
Michigan.

Long planned but delayed by a variety of obstacles, the pathway is the
latest in a series of projects in and around downtown designed to
enhance the quality of life.

With the RiverWalk about half complete, the city says it hopes
eventually to connect that waterfront promenade to a regional network
of pedestrian and bicycle trails through the Dequindre Cut, a former
railroad line.
