Another week with WDET’s ‘Home Is More Than Our House’

WDET 101.9 FM reporters Rob St. Mary and Zak Rosen continue their
coverage this week in their “Home is More Than Our House” series on how
Detroiters are facing and fighting the foreclosure crisis.

Listen to Detroit Today on WDET this week for their stories. The program airs from 1-3 p.m. weekdays on 101.9 FM.

This week, Zak will profile Mark Covington, Chairmen of the Georgia Street Community Collective on the East Side. Zak says the collective, made up of neighbors and interested others, have
bought a broken down house and store front for one dollar in back taxes.
They’re now trying to raise money to renovate it into a small grocery
store and community center.

Rob St. Mary will be doing a piece on the STAND (“Strategizing to Adopt a Neighborhood in
Detroit”) project. It is an effort between the Michigan Neighborhood
Partnership and North Star CDC to cut down on the effects of
foreclosure on neighborhoods on Detroit’s West Side.
